[Object Class: Euclid]
[Disruption Class: Vlam]
[Risk Class: Warning]
[Special Containment Procedures]:
SCP-3456 is to be contained within a 10m x 10m x 10m room constructed of reinforced steel. Access to the chamber is strictly forbidden without the express written approval of Level 4 personnel. Personnel entering Area 2█1 must be equipped with cognitive resistance helmets to prevent the effects of SCP-3456's resonance abilities. Any personnel experiencing memory loss or altered perceptions must undergo immediate psychological assessments and be placed under observation for a minimum of 72 hours.
The consciousness effects of SCP-3456 must be strictly monitored. Tests involving personnel exposed to SCP-3456 must be overseen by no less than two (2) Level 3 researchers. Under no circumstances should any individual remain in proximity to SCP-3456 for longer than ten (10) minutes during research.
[Description]:
SCP-3456, designated "Echo," manifests as a crystalline structure approximately 2 meters in height. Its surface is an iridescent blend of colors that seem to shift and flow like liquid. SCP-3456 has been observed to cause severe memory loss in biological subjects and induce "reality echoes" that warp perceptions of time and self.
SCP-3456's abilities induce two phenomena in its immediate vicinity:
- Resonance: Individuals affected by SCP-3456 experience alternate realities, causing confusion and difficulty distinguishing truth from illusion.
- Fracture: SCP-3456 creates time loops, ensnaring individuals in cycles of moments that either repeat or skip, leading to increasing disorientation and psychological strain.
[Discovery]:
SCP-3456, designated "The Echo In The Cave," was discovered following a series of alarming incidents involving the NightScythe Order, a cult that sought to harness its power for ritualistic purposes. In the winter of 20██, local authorities received numerous reports of missing persons in the vicinity of a remote cave system in [REDACTED], where the cult was rumored to secretly conduct their rituals.
Foundation agents were dispatched to investigate these reports after preliminary observations indicated unusual activity around the cave. Upon entering the cave, agents encountered a crystalline structure resonating with a strange, iridescent lights. The agents quickly noted the disorienting effects emanating from the entity, as several experienced severe memory lapses and distorted perceptions of time, but some agents found out they can counteract or weaken SCP-3456's effects with Mnestics, allowing them to continue with their mission.
Interviews with cult members conducted after the incident have revealed that they had been drawn to the cave, believing it to be a conduit for cosmic energies. However, many confessed to having forgotten key details about their rituals, often describing fragmented memories of events that never occurred. This prompted the Foundation to intervene before the cult could escalate its activities, potentially endangering more lives.
[Addendum 3456-A]:
Incident Report - On ██/██/20██, SCP-3456 managed to escape containment due to a malfunction during a routine guard rotation, caused by the "Nightscythe Order". Immediately after, personnel reported experiencing hallucinations and distortions in time perception. Following its escape, a recontainment attempt has been undergoing, but with not much success:
